New phones issued in metro Atlanta will no longer come with a 404 or 678 area code, according to a report from our affiliate CBS Atlanta. The area code that will be assigned is 470.
The North American Number Planning Association assigned the last 404 prefix in October. With Atlanta’s booming population and demand for phones, the 678 and 404 prefixes are used up. 404 has been in use in Atlanta for 60 years.
