Lunch is probably my favorite meal of the day. Maybe it’s because I love bread so much (I do) or
maybe it’s because I’m always in a hurry (I am), but regardless of the reason why, I have a special place in my heart for sandwiches.
There’s something special about getting lunch, and it’s different from dinner or brunch or other meals out. My years working in the service industry taught me that midday during the work week is one of the best times to go out and have a quiet, peaceful meal in the city. Kids are in school most of the time, and only intowners are present at some of the busier spots around town, which is perfect for someone like myself who often likes to eat alone, reading a book or flipping through a newspaper.
This month, I set out to eat and photograph some of my favorite local fast lunches.

Isadora! I enjoy your writing (and photography!), but what a horrible headline for an article singing the praises of local eateries. I hope you didn’t scare off visitors (or locals) who are “scanners” of articles, because they’re going to miss out on some amazing lunches. Hi-Five, Victory and Delia’s are favorites of mine…great calls!
Agreed.
Please change the title.
Wording of the title is horrible.
