DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL) has announced its slate of programming for Older Americans Month (OAM) this May.
The theme, “Powered by Connection,” highlights the impact that meaningful connections have on the well-being of
older adults. The library will also be bringing back its popular senior talent and variety show.
“Seniors are some of our most treasured library patrons, and many of them have been visiting DCPL for decades,” said Myguail Chappel, branch supervisor for Library Take-Out Services, DeKalb County Public Library. “They tell us that the library is an important part of their social infrastructure, and we want to let all seniors know we are here to support them. Honoring them each May during Older Americans Month is one of the ways we do that.”
This year, the library is bringing back the senior talent and variety show. The event takes place on May 22, 2024 at Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center during the library’s annual OAM celebration.
The library is also using this opportunity to highlight its SeniorCONNECT program for homebound people, ages 55 and up. The program aims to decrease social isolation and loneliness by providing library resources and support such as book discussions, technical assistance, and access to virtual programs.
