Sandy Springs will hold a community workshop and a public input meeting on Aug. 22 to get feedback on concepts in its North Springs MARTA Corridor Study that seeks to make the transit station a more walkable destination.

The meetings will focus on getting community input on draft alternative concepts to redesign Peachtree Dunwoody Road (Spalding Drive to Abernathy Road), and future development on the MARTA North Springs Station site, the city said in a news release.

The community workshop will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 at Sandy Springs City Hall, located at 1 Galambos Way. Residents can stop by at any time. It is intended for community members who prefer a daytime activity. The project team will host informal drop-in hours for residents to review the draft concepts and provide input.

The public input meeting will follow the workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. at city hall. The project team will present an overview of the project, critical findings about existing conditions, public input from the first round of engagement, and draft alternative concepts. Attendees will then break into small groups to discuss the draft concepts and share additional ideas.

Residents and transit users can stop by pop-up events at the North Springs MARTA Station from 7:30 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, and Saturday, Aug. 31. Input shared at these events will also be considered for the revised concepts.

The North Springs MARTA Corridor Study plans to make North Springs Station a more walkable destination by improving multimodal safety on Peachtree Dunwoody Road (Spalding Drive to Abernathy Road). In addition, it will identify a preferred route to extend the Path 400 trail north to the station area; enhance walking and biking access to the station; find opportunities for placemaking at the station; and create a concept for transit-oriented development on the North Springs MARTA Station property.

An online survey will be open to the public following the meeting until Friday, Sept. 6

Sandy Springs leads the project with funding and support from the Atlanta Regional Commission through its Livable Center Initiative program. MARTA and the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCID) are key partners in this study.
