Tucker resident Scott Brady, the commander of American Legion Post 207, will receive the prestigious “Hometown Hero Award” by the Home Depot Foundation on Jan. 1 in Atlanta.

Brady will be honored during halftime at the Peach Bowl College Football Playoff game between Texas and Arizona State.

The former Marine has been on a mission to restore the post’s headquarters since it was destroyed in a 2019 fire. In November, Home Depot held a work day at the site, with more than 250 employees planting gardens, building picnic tables and fire pits, and adding other grounds’ improvements.

The post also received a surprise $25,000 check from the Home Depot Foundation that day.

According to a statement to Rough Draft, the Hometown Hero Award “recognizes a veteran who has made significant and measurable contributions to improve their community.”

“Scott Brady, a former Marine veteran, exemplifies this spirit of service and dedication,” the release said. “In November 2022, when American Legion Post 207 faced the threat of closure due to financial constraints, Scott led a capital campaign to raise $216,000 in just three months.”

Since being elected as commander, Scott created a new mission for the post dedicated to preventing veteran suicide with the motto of “Rescue, Restore, and Repay.”

Brady said he was very  honored to be selected, “on behalf of not only myself but for all the veterans of Post #207.  Mostly, I appreciate the attention this award may bring to our efforts to raise the additional funding needed to complete the rebuild of our post.”

The post, located at 4127 Pine Valley Road, is still in need of $200,000 to fully restore the building and grounds.
