A Dunwoody High School student has been arrested in connection with the death of a fellow student from an alleged drug overdose during class on May 6, according to the victim’s family.

Pamela Dieguez, the victim’s older sister, posted on her Facebook page May 7 that an arrest had been made.

“Want to thank everyone who donated and has checked up on us! An arrest have been made! Getting justice for my baby sister,” she wrote. “Hopefully this is an eye opener for a lot of families when it comes to kids doing drugs.”

According to WSB, the name of the suspect a juvenile, has not been released. The victim, identified only as Mia, allegedly purchased a Percocet laced with deadly fentanyl and collapsed during an afternoon class. The student was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.

Mia’s family have started a GoFundMe to pay for her funeral expenses. It has garnered more than $15,000 in donations of its $20,000 goal.

A post on Mia’s Instagram page said a memorial will be held May 8 at 4 p.m. at Brook Run Park to honor the 10th grade student.

“Bring blue balloons and stories to honor her life that was taken too soon,” the post said.

The school was on partial lock down Monday afternoon following the incident.

In a letter sent to parents by DHS Principal Tom Bass, the incident “occurred as many students were testing.”

“After the incident, the school was put on lock down to limit movement within the building,” he said. “We will not disclose additional information surrounding this student’s death out of respect for the family’s privacy.”

Bass, in his letter, said grief counselors and other personnel will be on hand for any students needing their services.

Dunwoody Public Information Officer Michael Cheek said the DeKalb School Police are handling the investigation, with Dunwoody assisting.  Rough Draft has contacted the school’s police division for further comment.
