After closing at Avalon in Alpharetta at the end of 2023, Bocado returns to the metro Atlanta dining scene in September.
Located at Powers Ferry Village in Sandy Springs, this latest version of Bocado will include a new menu offering pasta and wood-fired pizzas. Pizzas come served on 72-hour, naturally leavened sourdough crusts made with flour imported from a small farm in Italy, with toppings such as mozzarella and tangy, sweet tomatoes imported from the country’s Campania region.
In addition to pasta entrees of lasagna and carbonara, look for wood-fired filet mignon, red snapper, and other new dishes like a lobster roll, grilled artichokes, and beef carpaccio.
Owner Brian Lewis said in a press release that he “can’t wait to take our menu in this direction.” But for longtime patrons of Bocado, dating back to its days on Howell Mill Road in Atlanta, one signature dish remains conspicuously absent from the menu: the double-stack cheeseburger.
While the burger won’t be a regular menu item in Sandy Springs, Lewis told Rough Draft Atlanta it will pop up from time to time during special burger nights.
First created by Chef Todd Ginsberg, now a partner in The General Muir and Fred’s Meat & Bread, the Bocado burger became one of the restaurant’s most oft-ordered (and famous) dishes.

Lewis closed the Howell Mill location in 2021. A year later, he rebranded the Alpharetta location, dropping “Burger” from the name to tone down the restaurant’s reputation as a burger joint. He hoped to allow other dishes to shine on the menu, many similar to those served at the original Atlanta location of Bocado for 12 years.
Then, in December 2023, Lewis closed Bocado in Alpharetta. At the time of the closure, he announced plans to open a location in Sandy Springs.
