With one day remaining for candidates to file to run for the District 1 seat on the DeKalb County Commission, only a single candidate has entered the race, according to DeKalb’s  election office.

Former DeKalb School Board member Nancy Jester was the sole candidate listed by DeKalb election officials on Sept. 9 as seeking the post vacated by former Commissioner Elaine Boyer.

Boyer resigned the day before federal prosecutors accused her of misusing county money. Boyer pleaded guilty to the charges Sept. 3 and is scheduled to be sentenced in December, according to news reports.

Qualifying opened Sept. 8 and continues through noon Sept. 10 for the special election being held Nov. 4 to complete Boyer’s unexpired term, according to the DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections.
